Tyrosine Hydroxylase

Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) plays an important role in the physiology of catecholaminergic neurons. In fact, it is the first and rate-limiting enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of the catecholamines (dopamine and noradrenaline) from tyrosine. The amount of TH in catecholaminergic fibers is known to change following drug treatments (i.e. antidepressant drugs). TH antibody is, therefore, a useful tool to study dopaminergic and noradrenergic neurotrasmission.
